“Don’t Fall Asleep NOW!” Part 2
Debby DeStefano

“And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.”
Acts 20:9
(You may want to reread Part 1 to refresh your memory of our topic.)
This next one will be of great interest to pew-sitters. Paul was on one of his long journeys and went to Troas to break bread with the people. Paul began to preach and preached until midnight. Talk about long winded. Well one young man named Eutychus was sitting in a window high up. Eutychus fell asleep during the preaching, fell out of the window and was pronounced dead. Paul later brought him back to life but Eutychus was not alert and almost lost his life. Eutychus may have missed something in the message being preached that would have made a difference in his life. So let that be a lesson to you, don’t fall asleep during the preaching of the Word.;)
“Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.”
1 Samuel 24:11
How about the time that David was hiding in the wilderness from Saul? Saul wanted to kill David. David was trying to honor the Lord but feared for his life. Saul was closing in and was chasing David. He took some time out and Saul fell asleep in a cave. David was able to sneak into the cave undetected. David had the perfect opportunity to kill Saul right there and then but the Bible says that David’s heart was soft toward his leader and just cut off part of Saul’s coat. Saul’s life was almost snuffed out because he fell asleep.
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Matthew 26:41
“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”
Mark 14:38
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
Luke 21:36
Finally, that night in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus went to pray. He asked His disciples to stay behind and watch and pray. When Jesus returned from praying, He found them all asleep. He woke them up and said, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” Jesus returned to pray again for the second time and returned to find them asleep again. He returned to pray for the third time. The disciples were still asleep. The disciples missed spending holy time with their Lord.
Do you intercede in prayer for your spouse, your children, or others in your life? Sometimes we need to take the direct approach. Talk out loud to Satan and say, “You leave my family alone, you get away from them. You can’t have them; they belong to the Lord. I am praying the blood of Jesus Christ over them right now. You have to flee.” We need to remind Satan that he has no power over the blood that Jesus shed for us. Pray to the Lord and ask Him to cover your loved ones
with His blood. Ask Him to chase Satan away. Ask God to speak to the heart of your loved ones. Storm Heaven with prayer for them.
Is there someone in your life that you are burdened for or someone in need of a
miracle? Are you willing to charge Heaven on their behalf and stand up to Satan? It’s
time to stop being complacent about our families and get serious about earnestly
praying for them. Petition Heaven on their behalf and tell Satan that he can’t have
them and to stay away. Pray the blood of Jesus over them. Let’s get real. Let’s not
just go through the vain motions and repetitions of prayer. Let’s plead to God to
touch their lives. Don’t fall asleep now, your miracle may be nearer than you think!
“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is
our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
Romans 13:11
Yes, Satan is after your family! Pray and defeat him today!
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
1 Peter 5:8
