“The Lights of Christmas”
Debby DeStefano

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”
Isaiah 9:2
I love this time of year and all of the decorations and festive feeling that is in the air. I love to look at all of the lights sparkling almost anywhere you look. It is easy to get caught up in the commercialism of Christmas, so we as Christians need to make sure that we always keep the season in perspective. So many of things that we see, hear, and experience represent very important aspects of that “First Christmas” so long ago. This week I want to zero in on one of those beautiful reminders of that wonderful time. This is probably my favorite, the LIGHTS!
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalms 119:105
At the time of Jesus’ birth, the world was a very dark place. So much sin had entered the hearts of people and they needed the Light of God’s Son, their Savior.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalms 27:1
Have you ever been in a completely dark room and it completely envelopes you? It is overwhelming, oppressive, and seems almost heavy. Then if someone were to light a single match or candle, your focus automatically goes to that light. A source of hope. Your salvation. You may feel as though your life is like that dark room, but for those of you who have Christ in your heart, He is that source of Light and He can light the darkest room and give you help, hope, and peace. That
beautiful and welcome Light.
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
John 1:4
Are you walking around in the dark? If so, you need the Light of the world in your heart to light up your life and be assured of spending all eternity with THE LIGHT! Just realize that you need that LIGHT, a Savior, and confess your sin and ask Him into your heart as your Lord. Do it
now because none of us are promised tomorrow. It will be the best decision of your life.
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
John 8:12
So, as you look at all of the lights in the Christmas decorations, be reminded that that light reflects and represents HIS LIGHT! Pray that your light will draw someone out of the darkness and lead them to the Light. Remember Jesus is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD and no amount of darkness can overpower His glorious LIGHT.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
James 1:17
“Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
Ok, sing this little chorus with me from our Sunday School days:
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
