“Midnight Miracles”
Debby DeStefano

“Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”
1 Peter 1:6-8
We have all been there. You can’t imagine how things could get any worse and then it does. You just don’t see any end, and you have no idea what to do. You have been praying and praying and begging God to work a miracle and answer your prayer, but it seems as though God has you on hold. If God has you on hold, DON’T HANG UP! Your midnight miracle could be just moments away if you will just hold on. I was listening to a preacher who was talking about Midnight Miracles. I was so encouraged by some of the thoughts that I felt compelled to share some of them with you. I had never really realized how many times in time of trouble in the Bible that God came through at the midnight hour. Not 11:59 but right when you can’t possibly go on.12:00 midnight. God is always right on time. (Can I get an amen?)
“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.”
Acts 16:25-26
Think about Paul and Silas in Acts 16. Picture them now. They had been preaching and teaching about Jesus Christ in Philippi. They even healed a young woman. Some of the people of the city were not happy about any of this and they were beaten and thrown into prison and the Bible tells us they were thrown into the inner prison. Not only were they thrown into the inner prison but also were bound by their feet. Now I think we would all agree that Paul and Silas were not having a very good day. I don’t think any of us could say that we have experienced anything like that. But amazingly they started singing. Don’t you wonder what song they could possibly sing at this moment? But wait, midnight is coming and the Lord sent an earthquake. Really? All the doors are opened and their chains are loosed but yet they stayed. My husband was recently in Italy and saw where Paul was imprisoned in Rome before his death. It was 3 stories underground with no light.
They say that there was a fountain of sorts and Paul would baptize the guards after he led them to the Lord. I’m sure he was singing at his midnight hour.
How about Ruth? Her husband had died and she followed her mother-in-law but they had no home, no money, no food, and no means of support. They were at 11:59. What would they do and then Ruth 3:8 tells us, “And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.” The Bible tells us that Boaz took Ruth as his wife and she went from trying to glean enough food from his fields to survive to owning them. Wow. Midnight Miracle!
How about the children of Israel? They had been in Egyptian bondage for 400 years. They
prayed for release, but Pharaoh kept making it harder on them over and over again. It was
11:59 and they couldn’t endure much more. But then in Exodus 12:29 the Bible tells us
“And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,
from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was
in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.” Exodus 12:31 “And he called for Moses and
Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and
the children of Israel; and go, serve the Lord, as ye have said.” The Israelites were told to
put blood above their doors to save their children. Their children were saved by the blood
and they were finally free! Their Midnight Miracle!
There are so many times in the Bible that God steps in at the eleventh hour and turns an otherwise bleak and hopeless situation into victory. Think about those Israelites again. Here they finally escape the Egyptians but now the Egyptians are hot on their trail to capture them again. Moses and the Israelites are standing on the shore of the Red Sea. Can’t you see them? They look at the massive body of water in front of them and then look behind them to see the Egyptians gaining on them. It’s 11:59. What would they do? Then their Midnight Miracle! The waters part and they walk through on dry ground. How awesome is that?
Over and over again we see God working at the Midnight hour. Maybe it is 11:59 in your life right now. You don’t see any hope. You have prayed and tried everything that you can think of. But you know, sometimes God allows situations to become “humanly impossible” so that He can step in and perform His Midnight Miracles. While you are waiting for your Midnight Miracle, claim the power of His blood over your door.
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.”
Psalm 119:62
God loves midnight because it is during the darkest time or moment, He shows up and completely changes everything and lights up your life. It’s 11:59 and you feel defeated and discouraged, but in an instant at midnight everything changes. God activates the power of His blood. Your
Midnight Miracle has come. Keep holding on child of God!
