Scars
Debby DeStefano

Romans 5:3-4
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:”
Over the course of my lifetime and especially the last four years, I noticed that my body is beginning to look like a “Scar Zone.” I have had other surgeries previously and now have added many more scars. Scars never completely go away and when we look at them, they are reminders of a time when something was wrong and had to be corrected by surgery or removal.
James 1:3
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
I looked up the meaning of scars. A scar is described as a mark left by the healing of injured tissue. Scar tissue is formed when the body suffers from injuries or surgery as a way of healing the wound. “Scars are a natural part of the body's healing process. A scar results from the biologic process of wound repair in the skin and other tissues. Most wounds, except for very minor ones, result in some degree of scarring.”
So, scars are what we are left with after an injury or a surgery that was necessary for our health. What would happen if we never addressed the issues and never had the surgeries that were required? Yes, we would save ourselves from scars but most likely the original problem would get worse and cause even more trouble or unfortunately sometimes even end our life. So, scars are necessary and even can be looked at in retrospect as a good thing.
Job 23:10
“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”
How about the trials and tribulations that we sometimes go through? They cause hurts and deep wounds that leave scars. Some can be small scars, but some can be large deep wounds that take a long time to heal. The healing process is up to us. Do we take good care of the wounds and follow the necessary procedures to ensure complete healing, or do we refuse to let the wound heal and keep picking at it and scraping the wound open over and over again? I have actually met some people with hurts far in their past and they refuse to take it to God to begin the healing. They carry these deep wounds around everyday rehearsing it over and over again to anyone who will look or listen. How sad because eventually that wound will get infected and will grow into a much bigger problem.
Psalms 147:3
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
Everyone has scars. Sometimes we try to hide our spiritual scars because we think they are ugly, but we need to share those scars as a witness to Jesus Christ and His healing power. Not dwelling on them and rehearsing them, but telling others of how the Lord healed you. Believe it or not your scars can be a witness to others and a testimony of God’s miraculous healing. The Apostle Paul referred to his scars many times. Remember that our Savior has scars that bought our eternal life. How will you handle your scars? Will you take them to the Great Physician and ask for His healing or will you continue to keep the wound open? The decision is yours. God is waiting to heal you now. When He does, you will see later in life as you look at the scars how those silent reminders have made you stronger, made you lean on the Lord, and made you a better testimony of His love for us. God loves you and He wants to heal you and make you whole. Take your wounds to the Lord.
Job 5:18
“For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.”
